Legendary Tejano promoter and one of Austin’s first Tejano club owners Willie Cisneros died of colon cancer on Thursday, he was 66.
Cisneros supported many Tejano artists as he was one of the first to book them and give them a break in the Austin music scene, including Tejano stars like Selena Quintanilla Perez, Gary Hobbs, La Mafia and countless others.
Many Tejano stars reacted to the passing of Cisneros via social media.
“It is hard to put into words what mostly everyone already knows,” legendary band Tierra Tejana posted on their official Facebook page on Thursday. “Today we lost a Brother whom had a major impact not only in the lives of the TIERRA TEJANA family, but also in the lives of many Tejano artist. Mr.Willie Cisneros. Our condolences to Sylvia y La Familia Cisneros. Father, we Thank You for crossing our paths and may You welcome him into Your Kingdom. Willie, we Love You and you will be missed. Until we meet again, may you RIP.”

We will meet again someday for the that big dance in heaven. God Bless Familia Cisneros and be with you in this difficult time. You are in my Prayers,” Grammy winning musician William Wild Bill Perkins posted on Facebook.
“RIP Willie Cisneros, you were a big part of this onda and will always be remembered for that my brotha! I remember so may gigs we did together in Austin,” singer David Marez posted. “To all the Cisneros family I would like to extend my deepest condolences. God bless you all!”
“Prayers for my good friend Willie Cisneros and his family. I was blessed by his encouragement and support. He will always be remembered,” Tejano singer Roxanne posted on Facebook.
The Rosary and viewing for Cisneros will be from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 22, at Harrell Funeral Home, located at 1715 Kirby Lane in Kyle, Texas. Mass will be at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, located at 801 N. Burleson in Kyle, Texas, on Wednesday, December 23, followed by burial at San Miguel Cemetery in Uhland, Texas.
