(AustinVida) – Tonight, the ever-popular Emilio Navaira will make his debut at Dance Across Texas. The San Antonio superstar doesn’t play Austin very often, so this will be a special treat not only for Tejano music lovers, but also for his hardcore Austin fans as well.
Emilio began his career with David Lee Garza y Los Musicales back in the mid-1980s, replacing frontman Ram Herrera as lead vocalist for the Poteet Posse. After several successful years with DLG, Emilio struck out on his own and became one of the most popular Tejano singers of the golden 1990s, periodically venturing into Country music and ultimately won the 2003 Grammy Award for Best Tejano Album.
Emilio’s been on the come back trail since his horrible bus accident in 2008, which nearly took his life. Since then, he has recorded several duets with fellow Tejano artists and also released the albums Juntos and El Regreso Del Rey.
Long story short: Ya betta go. You won’t regret it. One of Tejano music’s best voices ever and he rarely plays here. Another big props to Dance Across Texas for continuing Tejano on Sunday nights after last week’s killer Latin Breed and Pio Treviño show.
Dance Across Texas is located at 2201 East Ben White Blvd just east of I-35 in south Austin. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $15 at the door. 18+ welcome. For more information, contact Dance Across Texas at 512-910-4000.
