On Monday, June 29 at 9AM, tune in to Rancho Alegre on KOOP for a special recorded interview with legendary singer Beatriz Llamas.
Known as La Paloma Del Norte, Beatriz was the first female recording artist on storied Tejano record label Bego Records founded by Paulino Bernal and partner Joe Gonzales. Her strong, passionate voice, ever-present cat eye makeup, and engaging stage presence made an indelible impression on Tejano and Conjunto fans all over Texas and beyond beginning in the early 1960s.

She recently came out of retirement to perform with Las Tesoros de San Antonio and were featured during this year’s Tejano-Conjunto Festival en San Antonio in May.
Conducted by our own Baldomero “El Parrandero” Cuellar, the interview is entirely in Spanish. But, even if you don’t understand the language, her zest for life and her personality shine through and it’s fun to listen to. There will also be an English translation posted online before the show.
We deeply appreciate the afternoon we spent with her and her family at her home in San Antonio earlier this month and believe you’ll enjoy listening to this interview as much as we enjoyed recording it.
Join us Monday, June 29th from 9-10am on KOOP 91.7FM Austin, TX or online at koop.org
