(AustinVida) – Tonight will be puro party at El Toro Negro Lounge. Wednesday and Sunday nights at the south Austin club have seen some monster jam sessions lately, and tonight will be no exception as the multi-talented Rick Fuentes celebrates his birthday with some of his closest Tejano friends.
Best known to most as the longtime accordion player for Ruben Ramos and the Mexican Revolution, the native of San Jose, California, also spent time with Chavela y Su Grupo Express and Fandango USA. A Grammy Award winner, Rick has an impressive resume as a producer, arranger, songwriter, and vocalist. During a gig, he’ll effortlessly switch from accordion to keys (sometimes during the same song) to bass or anywhere else. In short, he’s a musician who happens to play accordion.
When he’s not playing with the Revolution, you can catch Rick around town (and at El Toro Negro) with Beyond Therapy. El Idolo, the latest release from Ruben Ramos and the Mexican Revolution, and produced by Fuentes, is available now.
Word on the street is that Rick will be playing Tejano, Conjunto, and whatever else strikes his fancy, along with the best of Austin’s Tejano scene and beyond. Look for names like Ruben Ramos, Hugo Guerrero, Joe Ramos, Raphael Rodriguez of Los A-T Boyz, Nikki Lopez and many more.
Long story short: Talk about talent. This will be another fun show at El Toro Negro with a great vibe.
El Toro Negro is located at 615 West Slaughter Lane, at the southwest corner of Slaughter and South 1st. Show starts at 9 p.m., 21+ welcome. No cover. For more information, call 512-632-9949.
