HOUSTON – Tejano fans spoke out against the musical acts chosen for this year’s “Go Tejano” Day at The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo during a protest outside City Hall on Saturday, KTRK-TV reports.
Protesters say they want authentic Tejano music back at the Rodeo.
The protest comes two weeks after a rant from Oscar de la Rosa at a Valentine’s night concert, where the La Mafia front man went on a tirade complaining about the musical acts selected for the Rodeo.
The genre has been phased out over the years with other Hispanic music taking over on what’s still called “Go Tejano Day.” There have been protests and this year an online petition.
Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo officials issued a statement Saturday afternoon, stating, “The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo respects the freedom of speech and freedom of expression which have made this country great.”
