
The Tejano music community is in mourning following the heartbreaking and unexpected loss of David Lee Garza Jr., son of Grammy-winning Tejano legend David Lee Garza, who passed away on Monday, March 30. He was 44.
The devastating news was shared through an official statement on the David Lee Garza y Los Musicales Facebook page, expressing deep sorrow and asking for prayers during this difficult time.
“It’s a Sad Day very Sad Day, this afternoon we lost a family member, David Lee Garza lost his Son DLG Jr. Please keep the Garza Family and especially DLG Jr. family — his wife Rachel Garza and his 2 young sons — in prayers. At this time please respect the privacy of the family. We will reach out with arrangements when they are made. His son David Lee Garza Jr. now sits with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”
According to a source, David Lee Garza Jr. had been admitted to the hospital on Friday and tragically passed away after suffering multiple strokes.
He leaves behind his wife, Rachel Garza, and their two young sons.
The loss is especially profound for David Lee Garza, widely known as the “Godfather of Tejano Music.” With a career spanning more than four decades, Garza has built a legacy as one of the genre’s most influential figures, shaping the sound of Tejano music and inspiring generations of artists and fans alike.
From timeless hits to classic albums, Garza’s contributions remain deeply woven into the fabric of Tejano music. His most recent project, 3225, marked a significant milestone as the group’s first album released in partnership with Freddie Records.
As news of the tragedy spreads, fans, fellow musicians, and the broader Tejano community have begun to share condolences and messages of support for the Garza family.
Destiny Navaira shared, “My Deepest condolences to all of the Garza Family especially David Lee Garza for the passing of his beloved son David Lee Garza Jr. as well as to his wife and children and siblings. May he be at peace with our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. Prayers and love to the Garzas.”
Los Desperadoz shared their condolences, saying in part, “we extend our sincerest condolences to David Lee Garza and the entire Garza family during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they navigate their loss.”
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
