Tabares, who spent 25 years performing with the acclaimed Tejano group Siggno alongside frontman Jesse Turner, officially joined La Calma last month. His first appearance on stage with the band will take place Saturday, March 14, at 6 p.m. on the Civic Main Stage during the free, family-friendly event.

“We just released it on all our social media sites, and we would love to welcome our brother, Checo Tabares,” Correa said during the interview. “He served 25 years with such an amazing group, Grupo Siggno, Jesse Turner, and all the guys. And he’s now a part of La Calma, so his first gig that he’s gonna be on stage with us is going to be Fan Fair.”

Correa said the addition of Tabares has already sparked excitement among fans.

“So we’re super excited. He’s definitely gonna bring the energy. He’s a different breed,” Correa added. “People love him. And I see the increase on our Facebook pages and everything like that. His fans are already following La Calma, so we’re super excited about that.”

New Music on the Way

In addition to the lineup change, La Calma is preparing to release a brand-new single titled “Esta Noche.”

The song was written by Mariano Herrera, keyboardist for Grupo Siggno, and is being produced with help from longtime Siggno collaborators including Richard Rosales.

“‘Esta Noche,’ man, it was written by Mariano,” Correa said. “One of the top producers that does pretty much all the Siggno music… Jesse Turner and Richard Rosales, so he’s behind the scenes on that as well. And I’m super excited about this one.”

Correa noted the song pushes him slightly outside his usual style.

“It’s a little outside my comfort zone, but you know what? Change is always good,” he said. “And I think it’s going to be a great, great song. I’m super excited that we’re gonna release it probably in about a month.”

Recent Momentum

La Calma has been building strong momentum in recent months, including the release of their latest single “La Más Chula del Condado.” Correa also reflected on collaborating with fellow Tejano artists Stefani Montiel and Gabriel Zavala on the hit duet “Echame La Culpa.”

Formed in 2008, La Calma has steadily become one of Tejano’s most energetic and crowd-pleasing bands. Led by Correa, the group blends traditional Tejano and Norteño influences with modern production, delivering fan favorites like “Entonces Que Somos” and “Letal.”

With award-winning musicians, tight arrangements, and a loyal fanbase known as Calma Nation, the band continues to grow its presence in the genre.

The addition of Tabares—whose acclaimed career with Grupo Siggno includes a Latin Grammy and decades of performances across the United States and internationally—marks a new chapter for the group as they prepare to debut their revamped lineup at one of Tejano music’s biggest annual gatherings.

Fans can catch La Calma live at the Tejano Music Awards Fan Fair on Saturday, March 14, at 6 p.m. on the Civic Main Stage.
