Veteran Tejano and regional Mexican musician Albert Ramirez, best known as a founding member of Grupo Masizzo and a former bassist for Intocable, is stepping onto the global stage once again. Ramirez has officially joined Grupo Frontera as the band’s bass player for their upcoming “Triste Pero Bien C*brón Tour” in 2026.

The Latin GRAMMY-winning group will launch the international trek next Sunday, March 15 in Sonora, Mexico, with tour stops scheduled across Mexico, Central America, South America, and Europe.

For Ramirez, the opportunity marks a return to the instrument that helped define his early career.

From Intocable’s Early Hits to Masizzo’s Legacy

Ramirez first gained widespread recognition during his tenure with Intocable from 1995 to 1997, when he played bass on several early recordings that helped shape the band’s signature norteño sound. Among the songs recorded during that period were fan favorites like “Y Todo Para Qué,” “No Te Vayas,” “Eres Mi Droga,” “Dónde Estás,” “El Amor,” and “Ya Ves.”

Though his time with the band spanned multiple periods over the years, those early recordings remain a cornerstone of Intocable’s catalog and the genre’s evolution.

Launching Grupo Masizzo

In 1997, Ramirez made a pivotal decision that would reshape his musical path. He set the bass aside and picked up the accordion to form Grupo Masizzo alongside former Intocable bandmate Johnny Lee Rosas.

The group went on to build a loyal following with hits such as “Te Quiero Tanto Tanto,” “Fantasía,” “Estoy Seguro,” “Me Hace Llorar,” and “Ingrata Suerte.”

Despite serving primarily as the band’s accordionist on stage, Ramirez continued recording bass on every Masizzo track in the studio, maintaining his connection to the instrument throughout the band’s discography.

Returning to Bass for a Global Stage

Now, after years leading Masizzo from behind the accordion, Ramirez is officially returning to the bass full-time to perform with one of regional Mexican music’s most in-demand acts.

Joining Grupo Frontera, whose crossover success has taken the genre to global audiences, places Ramirez at the center of one of the biggest touring productions in Latin music today.

Masizzo Continues the Family Tradition

While Ramirez tours the world, Grupo Masizzo will continue performing and releasing music.

The band recently collaborated with Secretto to record new music videos for “Ingrata Suerte” and “Solamente Mía,” two classic Masizzo songs that will be released as a joint project between the two groups.

Meanwhile, the band will keep its performances going with a strong family presence on stage. During Ramirez’s absence, his 15-year-old son Daniel Ramirez will step in on accordion for upcoming live shows.

The current lineup of Masizzo now features multiple members of the Ramirez family, including Bryan Ramirez on bass, Isaias Ramirez on vocals and bajo sexto, and Daniel Ramirez on accordion—continuing the band’s legacy while Albert takes on his new role with Grupo Frontera.

As Ramirez prepares to embark on the “Triste Pero Bien C*brón Tour,” his journey from pioneering Tejano recordings to international stages highlights a career that continues to evolve—while keeping deep roots in the music that built his name.
