Veteran broadcaster, historian, and Tejano music champion Rudy Treviño will be celebrated later this year with a special tribute event recognizing his decades-long impact on the genre. The Rudy Treviño Legacy Award and Gala is scheduled for Saturday, November 7, at the Grand Ballroom of the Holiday Inn Corpus Christi Airport & Conference Center.

The gala will bring together some of the most influential figures in Tejano music and broadcasting to honor Treviño’s extraordinary career and contributions to preserving and promoting the genre.

In recognition of his lifelong dedication to Tejano music, the State of Texas, through the Texas Music Office, will present Treviño with an official proclamation signed by Greg Abbott, Governor of Texas. The presentation will be made by Stephen Ray during the ceremony. As part of the honor, the Texas State Flag will be flown over the Texas Capitol in Treviño’s recognition for one week.

The event, produced by QMP Events, is expected to be one of the most significant gatherings in the Tejano music community this year.

A Night Celebrating Tejano Legacy

The gala will feature a full program of special guest speakers, stage appearances by Tejano pioneers, and live musical performances. The house band will accompany artists and dignitaries throughout the evening, culminating with a headline performance by La Fiebre, famously known as “The Pride of Pasadena,” and Ricardo Castillon.

Several well-known personalities in the Tejano music world have already committed to appearing at the tribute, including broadcaster and podcast host Rock N Roll James, Grammy-winning accordionist Sunny Sauceda, Tejano icon David Marez, legendary broadcaster and musician Mando San Roman, pioneering musician Balde Muñoz, Tejano star Shelly Lares, and podcast host Bumper Gomez, with additional artists and special guests expected to be announced. A Lifetime Dedicated to Tejano Music

Treviño’s influence on Tejano music spans decades through both broadcasting and cultural preservation. His work with programs like the Tejano Gold Countdown and Domingo Live has helped spotlight countless Tejano artists and bands, giving them a platform while documenting the evolution of the genre.

In 2025, Treviño’s contributions to broadcasting were formally recognized when he was inducted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame.

More recently, he has taken on a new mission in academia at Texas A&M University–Kingsville, where he serves as a Professor of Practice. In that role, Treviño is spearheading the development of a new academic center dedicated to the study and preservation of Tejano music and media.

Inspiring the Next Generation

After a remarkable 47-year career in broadcast journalism, Treviño’s transition into higher education reflects his commitment to ensuring the history and cultural significance of Tejano music are documented and passed down to future generations.

His unique perspective—as a journalist, historian, and lifelong supporter of Tejano artists—positions him to mentor students while helping establish academic resources dedicated to the genre’s legacy.

With a proclamation from the State of Texas, performances from Tejano legends, and a gathering of the genre’s most respected voices, the Rudy Treviño Legacy Award and Gala promises to be a historic night celebrating one of the music community’s most devoted advocates.
