HOUSTON, Texas — A lawsuit seeking more than $25 million in damages has been filed against Ramón Ayala and Ramón Ayala y Sus Bravos del Norte, according to a press release issued Tuesday by The Buzbee Law Firm.
The suit, filed in Hidalgo County State Court, was brought on behalf of an individual identified as John Doe #1, who was previously a member of the band’s traveling support staff. The complaint alleges that John Doe #1 was subjected to repeated sexual assaults while working with the group.
According to reporting by Chron.com, “a majority of the allegations in the lawsuit center on Ramon Ayala Jr., his 56-year-old son, who hired Doe in September 2024 and was one of several people he engaged in sexually explicit conduct in front of crew members.”
The report states the alleged conduct ranged from “routinely expos[ing] his genitals aboard the tour bus,” “lick[ing] individual dollar bills and then thr[owing] them toward the plaintiff,” and sexually assaulting the complainant.”
In a statement included in the press release, attorney Tony Buzbee said:
“I’ve handled some of the largest and most high-profile sexual assault cases in the United States. I’ve never seen the type of conduct alleged in this case. It is the most egregious and outrageous that I have seen. Something has to be done to stop this, and we intend to do it.”
The case is currently pending in Hidalgo County State Court and seeks damages exceeding $25 million.
Founded in the early 1970s, Ramón Ayala y Sus Bravos del Norte is considered one of the most influential groups in regional Mexican music history. The band has earned international recognition, multiple Grammy Awards, and a devoted fan base throughout the United States, Mexico, and Latin America.
