Los Heartbreakers are shining a spotlight on the future of Tejano music with the premiere of their new music video, “Ay Señorita,” featuring honorary band member Diego Zambrano—the young accordionist who recently stole hearts at the Tejano ROOTS Hall of Fame ceremony in Alice, Texas, earlier this month.
Diego joined Los Heartbreakers onstage alongside two-time Latin Grammy winner and Tejano icon Bobby Pulido for a memorable performance that quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of the annual event. The appearance came together organically and unexpectedly, rooted in kindness, community, and a shared love for Tejano music.
Following the ceremony, Los Heartbreakers appeared on Domingo Live with Diego and his mother, Carla Zambrano, to reflect on the experience and to debut details about their latest single and music video.

Carla shared that Diego’s connection to music was evident almost from birth.
“So, I know that he has a short little life of 11 years, but honestly, he was an infant,” she said. “I have videos where he was already, you know, just tapping his hand, and clapping his hand, and singing along with music. So, we knew from the start, you know, that music was in his heart.”
She also explained how Diego’s appearance at the Tejano ROOTS Hall of Fame came to be.
“Actually, it was just an invitation from Bobby, just on social media,” Carla shared. “There was a lot going on at the time, and he was just, I guess, trying to spread some kindness and stuff. And he got on social media and invited him to be there. And then, of course, Los Heartbreakers had also invited him to join them. And so, that’s how we ended up there that night.”
For Los Heartbreakers, including Diego in such a meaningful moment was a natural decision. The Alice-based band spoke warmly about their relationship with the young musician and the significance of sharing the stage with him at such a respected event.
“Well, I’d like to thank the Tejano ROOTS Hall of Fame committee,” the band shared. “You know, they’re very close to us. So, whenever they invited us to play, you know, because we’re young, we love Tejano music. Whenever they invited us to play, we immediately thought that we wanted to include Diego.”
The committee allowed additional stage time so Diego could perform with the band—an opportunity that meant more than words could express.
“It means the world to us,” they continued. “When Diego started playing with us, he had brought his accordion one time and we said, ‘You know what, we know one of the songs, so come on stage.’ And he did. To see him grow, you know, as a kid and as a person and also musically—learning to sing and then to play—it’s just been a real privilege to include Diego in our journey.”
That bond extends far beyond the stage. Band members have known Diego his entire life, and the connection is genuine and constant.
“We call him and we’re singing, he starts singing too,” the band shared. “We play the accordion, he’s playing. He calls us every day. We ask him, ‘Hey, are you practicing the accordion?’ He says, ‘Yeah, I’m practicing.’”
Carla added that Diego doesn’t just play music—he feels it.
“So, he follows like the motion of the accordion,” she said. “So, you know, in his heart, Diego’s singing and he’s playing, you know, so we just support that.”
That support is clearly reflected in Los Heartbreakers’ newest release, “Ay Señorita,” a catchy cumbia written by one of the band members and brought to life through collaboration and community.

“It’s a song I wrote. It’s a cumbia,” the band explained. “And, you know, being at UTSA right now, it’s tough because I got to send the music over and then see, OK, y’all like it. So, I was just trying to come up with something kind of catchy and repetitive.”
The song came together quickly, beginning as a simple phone recording shared between brothers before evolving into a full studio track and music video.
“We got together one day before we played and we practiced and recorded. And that’s how it came about,” they said. “We made a video and we were able to have a lot of community support. And that means the world to us, especially our community of Alice.”
With “Ay Señorita,” Los Heartbreakers continue to honor Tejano traditions while nurturing the next generation—proving that the heart of the genre beats strongest when family, community, and music come together.
