Auditions have been announced for La Reina Que Quiero Ser, a powerful new El Paso–based short film inspired by the legacy of Selena Quintanilla-Pérez. Casting will take place on Saturday, January 31, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the center courtyard stage at The Outlet Shoppes at El Paso.
Set in March 1995, La Reina Que Quiero Ser tells the story of Miguel, a young boy who finds the courage to embrace his true self following the death of his idol, Selena. Guided by his mother’s unconditional love and the healing power of music, Miguel’s journey reflects the profound and lasting impact Selena continues to have on generations of fans.
Film producers are currently searching for someone to portray “La Reina del Tex-Mex,” Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, in the short film. The audition is open to performers ages 18–30, though producers strongly encourage anyone who feels they are right for the role to audition, regardless of age. Applicants must be no younger than 16 years old, and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Auditions will be first-come, first-served, and participants are encouraged to arrive early to secure a spot. Those auditioning should come dressed in their best Selena-inspired attire and be prepared to read a scene from the script, which will be provided on site. In addition, performers will be asked to lip-sync for 60 seconds to a Selena song of their choice, bringing the Queen of Tejano’s spirit and stage presence to life.
The role of Selena is a paid, non-union opportunity for the actor cast in the film.
“Grab your purple sequins and your red lipstick… we’ll see you at the Shoppes!” the casting call reads, adding a fitting nod to Selena’s enduring legacy: “After all, anything for Selenas!”
For more information or questions about the audition, interested participants can email lareinaselenafilm@gmail.com.
Auditions like this not only celebrate Selena’s timeless influence, but also spotlight El Paso’s growing creative community—offering local talent a chance to honor a legend whose music and message continue to inspire.
