LOS ANGELES, CA — The raw, unfiltered storytelling of Chalino Sánchez is set to spin on turntables for the first time. Craft Latino has officially announced the long-awaited vinyl debut of El Pela Vacas, the iconic 1992 corridos album that helped define modern regional Mexican music. Set to release on August 29—just one day before what would have been Chalino’s 65th birthday—the reissue celebrates the enduring legacy of the man known as El Rey del Corrido.
Originally released by Discos Musart, El Pela Vacas features 15 powerful tracks, including fan favorites like “Ya después de muerto,” “Corrido del Gallito,” and “La muerte del Pela Vacas.” This marks the first time the album will be available on vinyl and in hi-res digital audio (192/24). The lacquers were meticulously cut from the original analog master tapes (AAA) by Clint Holley and Dave Polster at Well Made Music, ensuring a warm, authentic listening experience.
Fans can now order the album, which includes a limited-edition “Noche Morada” (Purple Night) color vinyl variant—only 300 copies available—exclusively at DiscosMusart.com, along with a collectible Pela Vacas T-shirt bundle. An “Opaque Silver” variant will also be available exclusively at Amoeba Music in Hollywood.
Grit, Vengeance, and Legacy
El Pela Vacas stands as a cornerstone of Chalino’s groundbreaking catalog, filled with corridos that read like pages from a Sinaloan outlaw’s diary. Backed by his longtime collaborators Nacho Hernández y Los Amables del Norte, the album showcases 11 Chalino-penned tracks. From chilling meditations on mortality to adrenaline-charged tales of defiance, every song offers a window into Chalino’s fearless world.
Among the album’s most haunting tracks is “Ya después de muerto,” in which Sánchez eerily reflects on death and legacy—a song many fans believe foreshadowed his own tragic end. The title track, “La muerte del Pela Vacas,” is a relentless narrative ballad about a feared outlaw’s violent fall, while “Corrido del Gallito” delivers a fast-paced, gripping tale of a cocky, gun-slinging legend who outwits his enemies at every turn.
Another standout is “Tino Quintero,” penned by Nacho Hernández. Based on a real-life mass shooting that took place on July 18, 1984, the song recounts the heroic final moments of Juventino “Tino” Quintero, who confronted the gunmen before being killed. “That’s my favorite corrido on the album,” said Hernández. “Tino was my friend, and it was the first song we recorded with Chalino—it changed everything in corrido music.”
The Legacy of Chalino Sánchez
Born in Culiacán, Sinaloa, Rosalino “Chalino” Sánchez transformed personal pain and community struggles into gripping corridos that resonated with generations. After learning to write songs while imprisoned in Tijuana, Chalino channeled his life experiences into a genre often sanitized for mainstream audiences. His music was real—sometimes brutal—but always honest. That authenticity earned him a devoted fanbase and the enduring title of El Rey del Corrido.
Over 30 years after his murder in 1992, Chalino’s influence continues to shape the landscape of regional Mexican music. His life and legacy were most recently revisited in the acclaimed podcast Ídolo: The Ballad of Chalino Sánchez.
