Leah Turner continues to break barriers in country music with her latest collaboration, teaming up with two-time Latin Grammy-winning Tejano star Michael Salgado for the duet “Para Mi.” The track is featured on Turner’s debut collection, This Is Mi, and highlights her ongoing mission to blend country and Mexican music into one powerful sound.
Leah Galvan Turner, the daughter of a Mexican mother, a talented dancer and artist, and a champion rodeo cowboy father, has long embraced her bicultural heritage in both life and music. She’s already made history as the highest-charting Mexicana in the Country Music Association’s history, and her latest collaboration further cements her role as a cultural trailblazer.
In a TikTok video, Turner shared the inspiration behind the duet, which she co-wrote with Leslie Satcher and Brett Boyett.
“It’s talking about how the first time that you see someone or catch eyes with someone, you just feel like they’re your person and they were made for you,” Turner explained. “I had written it to be a duet, and after Michael and I worked together on a CMA project for Telemundo, he reached out. I sent him the song, and now he’s on it. I’m so grateful. Michael, you sound amazing—it’s such an honor.”
“Para Mi” is a sultry tune that captures the spark of seeing “the one” for the very first time. Turner and Salgado’s unique vocal chemistry breathes life into the romantic lyrics while blending the sounds of country and Tejano music.
For Turner, it’s more than just a collaboration—it’s a statement of representation. “Country music has always had such a love affair con la Cultura Mexicana,” she said. She is proud to represent both sides of her heritage and is a true vaquera.
Her rising influence has extended beyond music. Turner’s attire is currently on display in the Grammys Power of Women in Country exhibit, showcasing her as both a cultural and fashion icon.
The renewed attention around “Para Mi” has been fueled by social media, and fans can expect even more from Turner soon. She has new music scheduled for release on September 5.
In the meantime, “Para Mi” is available now on all digital platforms.
