Nominees for the 22nd annual Premios Juventud, Univision’s star-studded entertainment awards show, were announced Tuesday, and two acts with strong Tejano ties—Grupo Frontera and Play-N-Skillz—earned impressive nominations.
The awards celebrate achievements in music, television, film, and pop culture, and this year’s edition will broadcast live from Panama City, Panama, on Sept. 25 at 6 p.m. CT, coinciding with Hispanic Heritage Month under the theme “Evolucionando al ritmo de la música” (“Evolving to the Rhythm of Music”). It marks the first time the show will be held outside the United States.
Grupo Frontera, hailing from the Rio Grande Valley, received four nominations:
- Favorite Group or Duo of The Year
- The Perfect Collab (“Por Qué Será” with Maluma)
- Tropical Mix (“Hoy No Me Siento Bien” with Alejandro Sanz)
- Best Mexican Music Album (“Jugando A Que No Pasa Nada”)

“Grupo Frontera continues to shape the future of música Mexicana with four nominations for the 2025 Premios Juventud. These nominations are a reflection of their genre-defying and innovative artistry as trailblazers in the music industry,” said The Exclusive Agency, the band’s PR team, in a press release.
Meanwhile, Dallas-raised sibling production duo Play-N-Skillz—made up of Juan “Play” Salinas and Oscar “Skillz” Salinas—earned a nod in the Best Dance Track category for their vibrant remix of Selena’s classic “Como La Flor” with Natti Natasha and Deorro.
