La Mafia frontman Óscar De La Rosa is on the road to recovery after a health scare on April 26 that required emergency medical attention just minutes before a scheduled performance in Cerralvo, Nuevo León, Mexico.
The legendary vocalist experienced a severe episode of vertigo moments before taking the stage on Saturday night, prompting immediate care from local medical professionals. Thanks to the swift and professional response of the team at Hospital General Cerralvo—including Dr. Alfredo Chávez and staff members Karen Areras, Ererdy Campos, Jass Gallegos, Flor Ramírez, Ángel Gutiérrez, and Aylin Cueto—De La Rosa was able to recover enough to fulfill the band’s commitment to their fans. The emotional performance went on hours later, with many fans waiting until 3 a.m. to see the group take the stage.
Following the show, De La Rosa was transported back to Houston, Texas, where he continues to recover under medical supervision. On April 30, he shared a heartfelt message with fans, expressing gratitude for the outpouring of support and the professionalism of those who assisted him during the incident.
“I also want to infinitely thank all the wonderful people who waited for us until late at night to see me return to the stage and be able to fulfill our commitment to you,” he wrote. “Feeling your support and affection gave me strength I will never forget.”
He added that he is focused on following medical guidance and hopes to be at full strength for La Mafia’s next scheduled performance on May 3 in Guadalajara for the band’s Vive El Momento Tour 2025.
La Mafia, founded in 1980 by De La Rosa and Armando Lichtenberger Jr., has become a cornerstone of Tejano and Latin music, with a career spanning more than four decades. The Grammy-winning band is known for timeless hits like “Me Estoy Enamorando” and “Vida,” and their passion for music continues to inspire generations.
Tejano Nation sends its best wishes to Óscar De La Rosa for a full and speedy recovery and will continue to provide updates as they become available.
