NASHVILLE, TN — The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum has unveiled a special display honoring the legendary Tejano supergroup, the Texas Tornados —featuring personal artifacts from Flaco Jiménez, Doug Sahm, and Freddy Fender. Among the centerpiece items is Flaco Jiménez’s accordion, a powerful symbol of the cross-cultural sound that helped redefine American roots music.

Flaco Jiménez’s trajectory spans generations and genres. Born into a San Antonio musical dynasty, he began recording as a teenager and went on to bring the conjunto accordion to global stages, from collaborations with Ry Cooder, Bob Dylan, and The Rolling Stones, to his Grammy-winning work with the Texas Tornados. His sound carries the heart of South Texas and the soul of borderlands storytelling.

“Having Flaco’s accordion displayed in the Country Music Hall of Fame matters deeply,” said Gilbert Reyes, Hohner Brand Manager. “It’s a powerful acknowledgment of a culture that’s long been a part of the American musical story. Flaco, Freddy, and Doug fused Country, Tex-Mex, Americana, and Ranchera to create a sound that could only be born in Texas. They redefined cross musical boundaries. This is a celebration of authenticity, innovation, and the rich cultural roots that have shaped American music.”

The accordion is included in the Museum’s permanent exhibition “Sing Me Back Home: Folk Roots to the Present.” The exhibit rotates items regularly to tell the evolving story of country music from its pre-commercial roots to today. Both Jiménez and the Museum are recipients of the National Medal of Arts.
