The Tejano music world is mourning the loss of Gary Echavarria, the longtime saxophonist for the legendary group Roberto Pulido y Los Clásicos. Echevarria passed away on Friday, leaving behind a profound legacy of music, talent, and friendship.
The news was shared by Tejano icon Roberto Pulido, who expressed his heartbreak in an emotional statement on social media. “Today, my heart is shattered. I lost more than a bandmate — I lost a brother,” Pulido wrote. “Gary was one of the best I’ve ever had the honor of sharing the stage with… he was family. A true Clásico, through and through. His talent was unmatched, but it was his heart, his laughter, and his friendship that made him so special to all of us.
“For so many years, we traveled this road together — making music, making memories, and living a dream. I can’t imagine the stage without him… it just won’t be the same. I’m absolutely heartbroken. We all are. On behalf of my entire family, I ask you to continue to keep Gary’s family in your prayers. Rest easy, brother. You’ll forever be a part of me, and you’ll forever be a part of our music.”

Bobby Pulido, Roberto Pulido’s son and a Latin Grammy-winning artist, also shared his grief in a heartfelt message.
“Sharing my dad’s words today with a heavy heart… Gary was more than just a musician — he was family. He stood by my dad’s side for so many years, and his talent, spirit, and loyalty left a lasting impact on all of us. We’ve lost someone truly special, and it hurts deeply. Thank you all for keeping Gary’s family — and ours — in your prayers. You’ll always be a Clásico, Gary. Rest in peace.”
Gary Echavarria’s contributions to Tejano music spanned decades, as he helped define the signature sound of Roberto Pulido y Los Clásicos with his soulful saxophone playing. His presence on stage and his vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by the Tejano music community and fans worldwide.
