The 23rd Annual El Veterano Conjunto Festival is set to take place on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at Whiskey Rio in Corpus Christi, Texas. This festival, organized by Linda Escobar, the Queen of Conjunto, honors all U.S. military veterans in memory of her father, music legend Eligio Escobar.
Linda Escobar shared details about the festival during an interview with TV show Domingo Live. She said, “Back in 1999, I started El Veterano Conjunto Festival. And we’re on our 23rd annual already. I just want to invite, you know, the public to come out and bring a veteran in your family and bring them out so they can be honored and they can be recognized with the veterans band, the Ram Chavez. And then we move on to dancing with eight great conjunto bands. And the proceeds benefit the Eligio Escobar Scholarship Fund, which we’ve given up to date right now about 68 scholarships to children that play accordion, bajo sexto, bass and drums and vocalist in the conjunto Tejano genre. So it’s all for a good cause.”
The festival will feature performances by scholarship recipients like Lazaro Perez and Conjunto Cats, as well as other talented artists including Los D Boyz, Mando Y La Venganza, David Flores y Los Tremendos Alacranes, Santiago Garza Y La Naturaleza, Javier Soliz y Los Unikoz, and Linda Escobar herself. Military ceremonies will be conducted by Ram Chavez and The Veterans Band.
El Veterano Conjunto Festival will run from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with an admission fee of $15. Attendees can also participate in a raffle to win one of two Hohner accordions and enjoy BBQ Brisket Sandwich plates on sale. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Eligio Escobar Scholarship Fund, which has awarded 68 scholarships to date.
