The Tejano Music Awards National Radio Show is making a triumphant return after a prolonged hiatus, bringing with it a fresh voice and renewed energy. The Texas Talent Musicians Association (TTMA), the organization behind the annual Tejano Music Awards, TMA Fan Fair, and the radio show, has announced that Bino Gaona, known as Bino G, will take over as the new host of the nationally syndicated program.
The one-hour show, which features “the hottest hits from award winners of today, yesterday, and tomorrow,” was put on hold in 2019 when its previous host, Bobby Lopez, faced health issues. Lopez, a Texas Radio Hall of Fame and Tejano ROOTS Hall of Fame inductee, and the longtime voice of the Tejano Music Awards, passed away in February 2022, leaving a significant void in the Tejano music community.
Bino G expressed his excitement and the importance of the show’s return, stating, “The Tejano Music Awards National Radio Show, in the existence of the 44 years of the Tejano Music Awards, has only three other jocks that have done this show. I am the fourth one to put the show on. It was given to me about a year and a half ago, after the passing of Bobby Lopez, so it’s been vacant for that long.”
He further explained the delay in the show’s return, attributing it to the demands of Fan Fair, the Awards, and his regular job. “I’m very happy to get this thing off the ground, the inaugural show, and the importance of this is to give the artists a platform to have their music played on, especially the young artists. You know, TTMA has always stood behind the young artists and we always try to add young artists in any of the events that we have. So, you know, this is a great platform for all the Tejano artists to be aired on.”
The program will feature music, interviews, and trending news segments from Tejano Nation. The inaugural show will premiere this weekend on Lopez Broadcasting’s Tejano radio station KLMO 98.9 FM & 92.1 FM in San Antonio, Texas, on Saturday at 1 pm CT and will re-air on Sunday at 3 pm CT. The show will also be broadcast on Lopez Broadcasting stations Majic 104.9 in Corpus Christi, Texas, and Majic 95.9 FM in Victoria, Texas, with showtimes to be determined.
