
Tejano music legend Little Joe, known for his contributions to the genre with his band Little Joe Y La Familia, underwent an emergency heart procedure on August 22, after a stress test revealed a 99% blockage in one of his major arteries. In a video update shared on social media, Little Joe expressed his gratitude and provided an update on his health status:
“Little Joe here with an update on my health status. On August 22nd, I had a stress test that showed one of my major arteries was 99% blocked. I was immediately taken to surgery and had a stent placed in me. I was discharged the next day and sent home to rest and recover where I am currently. On behalf of my family and I want to thank each and every one for your support, well wishes, kind words, and prayers. I can’t wait to get back to work. Muchas gracias, God bless you and your familia. Adelante.”
Despite the health scare, Little Joe is determined to return to the stage. The 83-year-old singer plans to perform in El Paso, Texas, and Albuquerque, New Mexico, next weekend. However, he had to cancel his performance in Victoria, Texas, on August 31 to focus on his recovery.
A Brief Biography of Little Joe
Little Joe is a pioneering figure in Tejano music. He began his musical journey at the age of 13, playing guitar for his cousin’s band, David Coronado & the Latinaires, which later became known as Little Joe and the Latinaires. Over the years, Little Joe has earned the title “King of the Brown Sound” for his unique blend of traditional norteño music with country, blues, and rock influences.
Little Joe’s illustrious career spans over six decades, during which he has released more than 70 albums and won multiple Grammy Awards. His contributions to Tejano music have made him a beloved figure in the genre, and his influence continues to inspire new generations of musicians.
