In recent years, vinyl records have made a remarkable comeback, outselling CDs for the first time since 1987. However, a surprising statistic has emerged: half of US vinyl owners don’t actually own a turntable, according to a new study conducted by Luminate.
The “Top Entertainment Trends for 2023” report showed that out of 3,900 US survey respondents, “50% of consumers who have bought vinyl in the past 12 months own a record player, compared to 15% among music listeners overall.”
This trend is driven by collectors and super fans who cherish vinyl for its visual and nostalgic appeal.
For Tejano music enthusiasts, this resurgence offers a unique opportunity to celebrate and preserve the rich history of Tejano music. Collecting classic Tejano vinyl records, from legends like Selena and Little Joe y La Familia to contemporary stars, allows fans to connect with the music in a tangible way. These records are not just about the music; they are pieces of art and history that capture the essence of Tejano culture.
While streaming services dominate the music industry, owning a piece of Tejano history on vinyl provides a deeper, more personal connection to the music and its roots. Whether you’re a seasoned collector or new to the vinyl scene, the joy of holding a classic Tejano record in your hands is unmatched.
