The Tejano music community is mourning the loss of Teddy Martinez, a Tejano ROOTS Hall of Fame singer and musician, who passed away on June 26 at the age of 52. His family announced his passing on social media, expressing their deep sadness and gratitude for the support they have received.
“We are deeply saddened to share the news that our beloved Teddy Martinez has passed away. He will always be loved by many, and his absence will be deeply felt. As we mourn Teddy, we will cherish and hold dear all the memories and love he shared with us. Teddy’s passion for music was undeniable, and he left behind a beautiful legacy through his art,” the Martinez family shared.
Teddy Martinez was the frontman for Teddy Martinez y Grupo Oro, who released their last album, “Desde el Corazon,” in 2014. His contributions to the Tejano music scene were recognized when he was inducted into the Tejano ROOTS Hall of Fame in 2017, a testament to his significant influence and the lasting impact he had on Tejano music.
Two-time Latin Grammy-winning producer and musician Ernie Gonzalez shared heartfelt memories of Martinez on social media, highlighting his unique style as a vocalist, bass player, songwriter, musician, and engineer. “Nobody sang like Teddy and I will miss hearing it,” he said. “In the past 20 plus years, every studio album I was producing, mixing or project I was hired to do, Teddy was right there with me.”
The loss of Teddy Martinez is deeply felt within the Tejano music community. His passion for music, his unique style, and his warm personality have left an indelible mark on the industry. As we remember Teddy, we celebrate his life, his music, and his legacy.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Martinez family during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Teddy Martinez. Your music and spirit will continue to inspire and touch the hearts of many. Funeral arrangements are pending and will be shared once finalized.
