The family of Johnny Canales, the legendary Tejano TV icon, has shared an update on his health following reports that he is “gravely ill”. In a video shared on social media, Johnny’s wife, Nora, and daughters, Zelestial and Miroslava, sought to clear up rumors and reassure fans about the 81-year-old TV host’s condition.
“Thank you all for all your love, for your prayers. We are taking care of Johnny. He’s in good hands. Thank you all for your prayers, for nonstop loving. We’re exhausted. We’ve been through a lot. It’s a blessing that you’re with us spiritually in prayers that holds a big love in our hearts. Do know that he is okay, that he is stable. He’s never been in the hospital, has never touched a hospital. He’s never been there,” Nora said in the video shared on El Show de Johnny y Nora Canales Facebook page.
Miroslava added, “We also have medical people coming to check on him every day, so he’s being very well taken care of, guys. We appreciate y’all, and at the same time, we would like to say we would like our privacy too during these moments, but he is good and like my mom said, any updates will be coming from this page, nothing else.”
Zelestial echoed her sister’s sentiments, saying, “Thank you for y’all’s prayers, everything. It’s been tough. We’re just repeating ourselves at this point. We just want to, please guys, just keep, just look at our updates. We just don’t want you going, listening to other people who are starting rumors. Just focus on this page, please.”
Nora concluded, “We’ll keep you posted on his health, and we thank you for your prayers, and we love you all very much, and we appreciate each and every one of you, and he’s okay, he’s stable, so prayers do work. We’ll see you soon. God bless.”
The family’s message brings a wave of relief to the many fans and well-wishers of Johnny Canales, who has been a beloved figure in the Tejano community for decades. His show, The Johnny Canales Show, introduced many Tejano and other Latin music stars to the world, with his catchphrase “You got it, take it away!” becoming a well-known phrase in the industry.
The news of Canales’ health challenges had caused concern among fans and the Tejano community. However, his family’s recent video message has brought a wave of relief to those who admire and respect him. His positive attitude and gratitude in the face of adversity serve as a testament to his character and resilience.
A documentary about Canales, titled Take It Away: The Rise and Fall of Tejano Hollywood, is currently in post-production. This film is expected to shed light on Canales’ significant contributions to the Tejano music scene and his enduring legacy.
