Austin, Texas – Austin-based Conjunto nonprofit Rancho Alegre will kick off its 2024 events schedule with a Conjunto dance series for Seniors 50+ at the Kyle Area Senior Zone. The first dance will be Friday, January 26 from 5 to 7pm with Austin’s own Conjunto Los Pinkys, featuring Susan Torres. Admission is free. The Kyle Area Senior Zone is located in Krug Activity Center at 101 S. Burleson in Kyle, Texas, just south of Austin.
“We are so excited about this new program. This series is geared toward seniors over 50 years old who love live Conjunto music but who have very few opportunities in the Austin area to experience it comfortably. Older folks are often forgotten when it comes to live music events, and we are really looking forward to serving them and meeting their needs with an early evening performance time in a safe, accessible, low-stress space. Many thanks to Kyle Area Senior Zone for hosting us and we hope to grow and continue this program next year,” says Piper LeMoine, Rancho Alegre Communications Director.
Conjunto Los Pinkys, who hosted a similar program for Seniors this past Fall, will kick off the series along with some help from frequent collaborator Susan Torres. For over 30 years, Conjunto Los Pinkys has been playing traditional Texas-style Conjunto music in the Austin area and beyond. The band features multi-talented bandleader Bradley Jaye Williams, legendary accordionist Ysidro Samilpa, who has been playing since the 1950s, along with veteran Conjunto musicians Javier Cruz and Henry Tello. Torres, who comes from a musical family herself, is known for her ebullient, alegre accordion style. The group was inducted into the Austin Music Hall of Fame in 2015 and Samilpa was inducted into the Conjunto Hall of Fame in San Antonio in 2022. The band regularly posts their schedule on their Instagram account (@conjuntolospinkys) and website, https://lospinkys.wixsite.com/lospinkys
The series will continue with Austin-based CruzSante on Friday, February 23, and San Antonio’s Joe Zimmerle y Su Conjunto on Friday, March 29, also at Kyle Area Senior Zone.

Rancho Alegre, bouncing back from an economically challenging 2023, is looking forward to an expanded calendar in 2024 with more new programming, made possible by generous support from the Texas Commission on the Arts and the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin Economic Development Department. Aside from this series, the Rancho Alegre Conjunto Music Festival will return April 5-7 at the historic Doris Miller Auditorium in East Austin and the organization is also planning a multicultural music series featuring different genres this summer, plus more monthly programming.
