Tejano music fans have a new reason to celebrate. A group of six former on-air personalities and mobile DJs have launched their own online radio station, Tejano Up Radio, intending to promote and preserve Tejano culture and music.
The station’s founders are Adam Ace, Jojo Herrera, Johnny O, Dj Razor, Bad Boy Al, and Bad Boy Josh. They are all veterans of the Tejano radio scene, having worked at various stations in the past. They also share a passion for giving back to the community and supporting local causes.
One of their initiatives is Toys for Tejanitos, a toy drive that collects and distributes toys to underprivileged children during the holiday season. The station also partners with Tejano Weekend Warriors, a nonprofit organization that organizes events and fundraisers for various charities and causes.
“We are here to keep you entertained and play the best en la onda Tejana,” the station’s website says. “Listen to our radio stations for the latest and the greatest music hits. We play all the top artists and provide you with the perfect soundtrack for your day. We offer a wide range of programs for our listeners, including news, music, sports, and talk shows. Our hosts are dedicated to providing you with the best content possible.”
Jojo Herrera, the owner of Tejano Up Radio and one of the on-air personalities, tells Tejano Nation the station’s staff bring their own style and music to the station.
“I really enjoy working with my team and I look forward to what the future brings. We are all about helping everyone and giving back to our community. Tejano Music will never go away and we want to make a difference in keeping it alive and going,” he said.
Herrera was born in Pearsall, Texas, and started his radio career right before graduation in the early 80s. He worked at KVWG, a local radio station in Pearsall, before moving to Corpus Christi to work at KCCT with Manuel Davila. He then moved to San Antonio and worked at several stations there including KEDA, KBUC, KXTN AM, La M Grande, KRIO, Radio Festival, and KLMO. He also has experience in TV production and camera work, having worked at KMOL TV, WOAI, and “SA Living”. He has also done some freelance work for KLRN, ESPN, and LCTV broadcast production services. JoJo has also been in a few movies such as “Selena”, “Rough Riders”, and “All Pretty Horses”.
Tejano Up Radio is available online at http://www.tejanoupradio.com and on various platforms. The station also has a Facebook page where listeners can interact with the hosts and get updates on upcoming events and shows.
