If you are a fan of Frida Kahlo, you won’t want to miss the second edition of Viva Fest, a festival of arts and culture celebrating the life and work of the legendary painter. Viva Fest is organized by Las Ofrendas, the operator of Frida Friday ATX markets, and will take place on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at The Brewtorium Brewery & Kitchen in Austin, Texas.
Viva Fest will feature live music, drag performances, art installations, DJ sets, a Frida-themed photo booth, and a curated market showcasing some of Austin’s best BIPOC and Queer artists and small business owners. The event is part of Hispanic Heritage Month and aims to honor Frida Kahlo’s legacy as a feminist icon, a cultural activist, and a visionary artist.
Some of the highlights of Viva Fest include:
- A tribute to Frida gallery wall curated by Monica Cenicero, featuring artworks inspired by Frida Kahlo’s style, themes, and symbolism.
- Live music by Mariachi Las Coronelas, Miguel St. Michael, The Tiarras, and Eva Ybarra, the Queen of the Accordion and a National Endowment for the Arts Heritage Fellow.
- Drag performances by Grandma Steven, Bobby Pudrido, Alexandria Van Cartier, Venus Rising, and Danny Blast, will bring their own interpretations of Frida Kahlo’s persona and spirit.
- A special curated Frida Friday ATX market with over 40 vendors offering handmade goods, jewelry, clothing, art, and more.
- A Frida-themed interactive photobooth by Navarro Photography, where you can pose with props and accessories inspired by Frida Kahlo’s iconic look.
