Latin Urban artist Christi Lux premiered her first Tejano-based track with the Shelly Lares-produced romantic cumbia, “Dónde Estará,” released on Friday (Feb. 24).
The Dallas-based singer is the latest artist showcased by the Tejano icon as “Little Miss Dynamite” continues to produce and mentor the next generation of Tejano stars with her LMD Productions.
Lares commented on working with the Latin Urban artist with her debut Tejano track. “She wanted to dab into the more cumbia Tejano scene a little bit. To do something that is out of her comfort zone because it’s definitely something she’s not used to, it’s a little more laid back and not so in your face with the snare and reggaeton sound. But she did really well, she liked it and I know Tejano fans are really going to like it from her.”
Christi Lux was honored to work with a Tejano icon. “To me, it was like a surreal moment, I couldn’t believe it was actually happening,” she tells Tejano Nation. “I was so humbled and so honored and grateful to have worked with her and I learned a lot from her. She has 40 years of experience in Tejano, so I learned from one of the best!”
“Dónde Estará” was written by Christi Lux and was produced and arranged by Lares.
“When she showed it to me it was just an acoustic guitar, kind of like a ballad,” said Lares. “It’s a great song, I love the melody and it could have gone in any direction but I picked a little bit more of a romantic cumbia and she loved it.”
Christi Lux added she was challenged outside of her comfort zone for the production of the song which is available on all digital music platforms.
“When I wrote it, it was more of an acoustic sound,” said Christi Lux. “It was supposed to be a sad song but I noticed too but with cumbias sometimes the words are sad but people are dancing. Shelly was like, ‘I think this song is perfect in a cumbia.’ So I was out of my comfort zone but I was able to pull through and the experience was amazing but I just loved the project and how it turned out.”
