Carlos Maldonado y Grupo Fuerte return with a new release on Friday, June 24, 2022. The nine-time Tejano Music Awards nominated group hails from Houston, Texas, and lead vocalist Carlos Maldonado is no stranger to the industry. He began his career at the age of six playing drums and performing with his father’s band, Carlos Maldonado y Sus Aguilas. He also performed with David Lee Garza y Los Musicales and Elsa Garcia.
In 1995 as his father went into retirement, Carlos created his band, Grupo Fuerte. The band has released five albums and a sixth album which reunited Carlos with his father recording some of Los Aguilas old classics.
The upcoming single release is entitled “Mucho Corazon” and is getting rave reviews.
“It was supposed to be released on an 11-track CD in 2020 for our 25th anniversary. Due to the pandemic, we had to stop production,” Maldonado tells Tejano Nation. “I was really looking forward to doing a 25th anniversary CD but with the decline in the CD market, we decided to release the project as singles.”
Looking back at the group’s success, Maldonado added, “While listening to the recordings, we realized this was some of our best work. This project is some of our old recordings that had a Conjunto sound and we changed them to a more Tejano feel with saxophones, keyboards, guitars, and a chromatic accordion. It gave all our recordings new life and a new sound.”
The single was recorded at Maldonado’s Fuerte Studios in Pasadena, Texas, where he has recorded many legendary artists including Juan P. Moreno, Jaime DeAnda, Ram Herrera, David Lee Garza, Pete Espinoza, Xelencia, Demmi Garcia, and the late, great Marky Lee and Bob Gallarza’s last recordings were done at Fuerte Studios.
The band consists of:
- Carlos Maldonado – Lead Vocalist, Bajo Sexto
- Andrés Nava – Accordion
- Juan “Johnny” Chapa – Saxophones
- Mike García – Keyboards
- José Luis Villarreal – Bass Guitar
- Jesse Vásquez – Drums
Carlos Maldonado y Grupo Fuerte is scheduled to perform at Kemah Boardwalk’s Tejano Music Nights on Sunday, July 10th.
The release will be available for download and streaming this Friday on your favorite digital platforms!
