The Roberto Pulido Music Scholarship Endowment gives financial assistance to aspiring musicians wishing to further their studies with music scholarships for music majors attending or planning to attend The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley with campuses in Edinburg and Brownsville.

Pulido began this scholarship in the late 1990s to help students pursuing a music degree who are also experiencing financial hardship. With the Fall Semester not too far away he wishes to remind students to apply.

The Edinburg native believes it is important to create your own unique style of music. He recalls wanting to be different and in the 1970s he added the saxophone and accordion to his music, and he is credited as the pioneer of that sound in Tejano Music.

Pulido is excited about the student’s music careers and emphasizes how important it is to apply to have an opportunity to receive this scholarship that he continues to fund today to continue the education of future music pioneers.

Music Scholarships are based upon musical talent and potential as displayed through a music entrance/scholarship audition, potential candidates for the Roberto Pulido Music Scholarship Endowment may apply here.

As someone who learned music throughout schooling, it’s fantastic to know about the ‘Roberto Pulido Music Scholarship Endowment’ that’s been around since 1990. I feel it gives the opportunity for young musicians to take advantage of their audition to show what their passion for music is, and why they deserve the scholarship.

Also, I never knew that Robert Pulido is credited for adding saxophone and accordion into his music, yet because of that, it made its way into almost all Tejano Music. That’s really awesome!!!!
