HOUSTON, TX – Tejano artists Negami, Shelly Lares, David Olivarez, Gera Hurtado, Alize Nino, DJ Gabe, Max Rios, Latin Image, and rock band The Reverb Cartel, come together for the 13th Annual Negami Toy Drive Concert, benefiting underprivileged children in local communities on Saturday, December 4, 2021, in Houston, Texas.
The delivery of Christmas gifts to the less fortunate began 13 years ago when the wife of the founder, organizer, and Negami vocalist Juan Carlos Villegas, and a teacher in the Galena Park Independent School District, first witnessed the sad reality of her students not receiving any gifts for Christmas.
“The heart-wrenching reality of her students bravely facing poverty and the sadness that many of them would not experience the excitement of opening gifts on Christmas morning drove my wife to tears, and we decided to do something about it,” said Villegas.
The Villegas organized a last-minute toy drive and gave out toys to not only the students from class but also to the other children who live in the neighborhoods which populate the school. Thirteen years later, the Villegas through their non-profit organization Inspiring Young Minds Thru Music, continue to share the spirit of Christmas. Toys have been given to hundreds of kids each year primarily in the North Channel area and surrounding communities.
Presented by Inspiring Young Minds Thru Music, a non-profit 501(C) organization, the toy drive will be held on December 4, 2021, from 2:00pm – 7:00pm at the Joyce Zotz Education Center, 13801 Holly Park Drive. Admission is a $10 donation or an unwrapped toy with a minimum $10 value. For additional details, please visit www.facebook.com/negamitoydrive or www.facebook.com/inspiringyoungmindsthrumusic.
