The Big Give SA is a day-long event to help San Antonio-area nonprofit organizations receive donations and support needed to fulfill their missions. The Conjunto Heritage Taller is asking all of its supporters to donate to help them continue the preservation and perpetuation of traditional Conjunto music as played with the button accordion and bajo sexto.
The Conjunto Heritage Taller provides low-cost instruction on the accordion and bajo sexto and seeks venues where students can perform. CHT’s student base is intergenerational, ranging in age from 7-80 years. Their motto is “Musica Tradicional for Youth of all Ages.”
The Conjunto Heritage Taller is a community-based non-profit organization established in San Antonio in 2002 by Carol Rodriguez, Rodolfo Lopez, and other friends. The Taller serves approximately 80 students per year through their in-studio accordion and bajo sexto classes, as well as senior programs which are held at various senior centers. Tuition is $45 per month. The senior programs are free.
I personally have seen the work that this organization does and I am a proud supporter of everything the Conjunto Heritage Taller stands for. I have seen the happiness and joy that the children experience when playing the music they have learned in front of the public audience. I have seen beginner accordion players gain confidence on stage and within themselves. I have seen the pride that the instructors have when watching their students perform. The support of all the parents and staff of The Conjunto Heritage Taller is very visible wherever they showcase themselves, and you can truly feel how much the instructors, staff, and parents of the Taller care for the students, culture, and heritage of Conjunto music.
We at Tejano Nation urge all of our supporters to please give what you can to this wonderful organization, every donation counts, no matter the amount. You can donate online here.
