An appearance by Joe Lopez at Tejano Music Awards Fan Fair in March has been canceled due to death threats, according to a news report.
KENS 5 reports that “Lopez’s manager, Sandra Vallejo, said the negativity started in Facebook posts and only escalated from there.”
Vallejo said they received death threats they took very seriously.
“I could not let that be on Joe’s shoulders for the rest of his life had somebody gotten shot, had we gotten hurt,” Vallejo told KENS 5.
Tejano music fans were in a frenzy earlier this week when Vallejo’s social media post said Lopez would be at TMA Fan Fair on March 15 in San Antonio.
Tejano Nation confirmed that it was an appearance by the former lead singer and co-founder of Mazz, after some fans mistakenly believed it was a performance.
Lopez was paroled in March 2018 after he served 12 years of his 32-year prison sentence for multiple sex offenses involving a 13-year-old girl, KENS 5 reports.
Vallejo said they will focus on more private events, as well as what is next in his legal process. Lopez has always maintained his innocence and is working towards exoneration.

Just want to say that I’m so so happy to hear that Joe will be performing when he’s exonerated. Can’t wait for the day to come!! I don’t care what people say about Joe and all that BS. DONT CARE!! You’re innocent and that’s that!!—I think that Joe should put the niece in jail and the brother for doing what they did. That was awful coming from his own family. Very wrong!! Anyway, hope to see Joe play soon. God bless you always🥰🥰—PURO BROWN TOWN—RGV!!!
