Fred Lares, the father of Tejano star Shelly Lares, passed away on Saturday (July 23), after a brave battle with cardiac ailments, according to sources.

Tejano artists, fans and friends began to flood social media with reactions and condolences as the passing of Mr. Lares began to spread over the weekend.

Shelly thanked everyone via her official Facebook page on Monday.

“Thank you everyone for the love and prayers for us…losing my dad is the hardest thing, but he filled our hearts with so much love that will last a lifetime…he loved the Tejano music industry and made so many friends along the way…dad had been off the road since 1999 due to his stroke and to this day people would ask me for him…he was the hardest worker I’ve ever known and a good man.”

Mr. Lares was instrumental in the success of his daughter’s career from the beginning, helping her garner many hits, awards and much more throughout the years.

A celebration of life for Fred Lares is scheduled for Friday, July 29, at Angelus Funeral Home, 119 N. St. Mary’s, in San Antonio at 6:00 p.m.

“We welcome all his musical friends and family to attend,” Shelly added. “Thanks for the love and prayers.”

Tejano Nation sends our heartfelt condolences to the Lares family, as well as Tejano Nation Radio’s DJ Dru a.k.a. Andrew Flores, grandson of Mr. Lares.
