Joe Lopez, the Tejano singer and co-founder of Grupo Mazz in the 1970s, is eligible for parole in 2016.

Reports confirm that Lopez remains jailed at the W.F. Ramsey Unit in Rosharon, Texas. His full prison term would end on October 27, 2026. He is eligible for parole on October 26, 2016.
Lopez was convicted in 2006 on multiple sex offense charges involving a minor.
He was sentenced to 32 years in prison, but because he will serve the sentences concurrently, they amount to 20 years in prison.
An alleged prison letter from Lopez dated June 5, 2015 has surfaced online. In the letter, Lopez talks about money troubles and problems with lawyers. He also mentions former District Attorney Armando Villalobos, who has since been convicted of corruption and is in prison. See the first page of the letter posted at www.tejanonation.net.

If you follow the case closely you’ll see that he was set up and refused to pay extortion money. Other singers have been accused of the same just for money. It’s a sad situation when justice can be bought and if you don’t have the money or try to prove your innocence you get locked up.

If you ask me I think this whole situation is all boggis. The reason is you had a district attorney who put a innocent man away Mr. Lopez lost his family reputation over this case that was not investigated right for one corrupted cops the state who was discharge of the case and a judge who poorly without looking into the case with all its facts. Everything that was presented in the court were all lies and I think that Mr.Lopez should sue the state look at these innocent people that have been put in prison for more than 20 yrs who become innocent and all they want to do is pay so these people can shut their mouths,I think that is wrong half there life in prison and this freaking court systems want to shut these innocent people up with money I think they need to study the facts and the cases real good before ruining an innocent persons life and again if you ask me these parents need to be more involved in there children’s life little girls and boys see to much with there parents and honestly the kids think it’s okay mom and dad do it .

I think he paid for his crime if he did it. I did not follow his trial but teenagers throw themselves at these singers like you won’t believe. Some parents too, if they need money have kids do their dirty job just to make money. I blame both parties but I believe he has learned his lesson of who to trust and not to trust. I believe D.A. Armando R Villalobos sentenced to 13 years in prison for racketeering. Former D.A. Villalobos convicted Joe Lopez. How can anybody believe he received a fair trial when his D.A. was paying off people to win his case. This DA was found guilty for selling justice. We shouldn’t be ready to judge so quickly until he gets a fair trial. He may be guilty or maybe he’s innocent regardless he deserves a fair trial. I want all child molester put away but put them away with evidence they have against them. It’s so wrong when DA, lawyers, judges and cops are corrupted.
