[11/8] Preview: All-Star Benefit for A-T Boyz Paquito Rodriguez at Austin Moose Lodge

(AustinVida) – Sunday, November 8th, Austin’s Tejano community will come together to help one of their own: Paquito Rodriguez of Austin group Los A-T Boyz, is battling a rare form of cancer, and he’s getting a little help from friends, family and fans in a big way, with an all-day, all-ages, all-star event at the Austin Moose Lodge.

Los A-T Boyz have been around forever, first as Alma Tejana, and have always been among the first to volunteer and pitch in for benefits, jamaicas, or other events whenever they’re needed. Their Austin roots go even deeper, as their father and bajo sexto player Paco Rodriguez played with various legendary local orquestas before fronting his own group, Paco Rodriguez y Su Orquesta, several decades ago.

Starting at noon, fans will get Conjunto, Orquesta and Tejano from legends, veterans, and up-and-coming groups, all for a great cause. Here’s the schedule, which, of course, may be subject to change:

8:20 – 9:00pm – Street People
9:10 – 9:50pm – A-T Boyz All Star Jam

Long story short: With nearly a dozen different bands and several guest performers, it’s not an exaggeration to say that this is one of the biggest Tejano shows, if not THE biggest Tejano show, Austin has seen all year. It’s got everything: accordion, brass, keyboards, community, love, friendship, family-friendly, plenty of room to dance, tons of free parking, affordably-priced drinks, food, everything! And it’s all to benefit a great friend fighting for his life. Well worth the $15 cover.

The Austin Moose Lodge is located at 2103 E.M. Franklin Ave, just east of Airport Blvd off of MLK. Music starts at noon, doors open at 11:30 a.m. Cover is $15 per person.
